Study without a Study Permit
In most cases, international students are required to have a valid study permit to study in Canada. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, if the course or program you are enrolled in is six months or less in duration, you may be able to study without a study permit. Additionally, if you are a family member or staff member of a foreign representative to Canada, you may be exempt from the study permit requirement.
It is important to note that even if you are exempt from the study permit requirement, you may still need a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to enter Canada as a student.
If you are unsure about whether you need a study permit or any other documentation to study in Canada, you should contact the Canadian embassy or consulate in your country for guidance.
During programmes of study lasting six months or less, people do not need a study permit. Any subject(s) may be included in courses, which can be taken either full- or part-time. The course of study must be finished within the allotted six months in order to be considered exempt from the need for a study permit. It is not possible to get a visa extension just to finish a short-term programme.
Any minor living in Canada is eligible to enroll in preschool, primary, or secondary school without needing a study permission. Children of temporary employees or students, as well as Canadian citizens and permanent residents, are covered by this. Children of temporary residents who are not permitted to work or study in Canada are not covered by this provision (i.e. visitors).
Foreign diplomats and accredited representatives’ families and private personnel are exempt from visa requirements for studies in Canada. In order to qualify for this exception, a person must be a family member of a spouse or common-law partner; a person’s dependent kid or that person’s dependent child’s dependent child; or a dependent child of a dependent child.
Many nations are listed as designated states under the Visiting Forces Act.
