Postgraduate Work Permit

POST - GRADUATE WORK PERMIT

A post-graduation work permit (PGWP) is a type of work permit that allows international students who have graduated from a participating Canadian post-secondary institution to gain valuable Canadian work experience. A PGWP may be issued for up to the length of the study program, with a maximum of three years.

To be eligible for a PGWP, you must have completed a full-time program of at least eight months in duration at a designated learning institution in Canada. You must apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving written confirmation that you have met the requirements for completing your academic program.

Canada Post Graduate Work Permit can be applied online through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. You will need to submit various documents such as your study permit, proof of graduation, and a letter of explanation, as well as pay a processing fee. If you have already obtained a PGWP and wish to extend it, you may be eligible to apply for a PGWP extension. The processing time for a PGWP extension is usually around 80 days. It is important to note that the length of the PGWP extension you can get depends on the length of your original PGWP. For example, if your original PGWP was for one year, you can only get a PGWP extension for up to one year.

Having a PGWP can be beneficial for international graduates as it allows them to gain Canadian work experience, which can be important for future immigration applications or finding permanent employment in Canada. It can also help international graduates integrate into Canadian society and culture.

To be eligible for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP), you must have completed a full-time academic, professional, or vocational program of study at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.

When applying for a PGWP, you must provide documents to prove your identity and your status in Canada.

You can apply for a PGWP online or on paper.

Wait for a decision and if your application is approved, you will receive an electronic version of your work permit.
