International students who are homeless in North Bay come to an agreement with Canadore College

Homeless international students from North Bay set up tents in front of Canadore College on Tuesday night because they had nowhere else to go.  Between 50 and 100 students were thought to be enrolled in classes but without a place to stay. Given that their tuition prices are so much higher than those of domestic students, they requested a reduction in housing expenses from $700 – $1,600 per month to around $250 – $630 per month.

After putting up a tough front for 24 hours, the college administration has agreed to the students’ requests. The college management has guaranteed the students that reasonable housing will be provided, the whole tuition will be refunded without any deductions, and the student’s classes will be offered online in accordance with IRCC regulations.

In a release, Canadore said that all of the students who participated in the rallies this week at the Commerce Court Campus are currently being sheltered and they are working continuously with all students to find appropriate accommodation.
